cares alcohol-and-health european-awareness-week-on-alcohol-related-harm-2020
The 8th European Awareness Week on Alcohol-Related Harm (AWARH - http://www.awarh.eu/), will take place 16th – 20th November 2020.
Health in Europe through alcohol policies regarding COVID -19, Sustainable Development Goals and Cancer are the core events during the week.
All events will be on-line. We are hoping for your support and active engagement in the week to make it a big success on social media.
Eurocare is organising this week together with United European Gastroenterology (UEG), European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL), European Liver Patients' Association (ELPA), European Brain Council (EBC) and European Federation of Addiction Societies (EUFAS). We are proud to have an established co-operation with these organisations.
In 2020 we are working closely together with WHO Europe Alcohol team. Their partnership increases the importance of the week and the visibility.
The aim of AWARH is to increase awareness of the need to address alcohol-related harm in Europe and highlight the need to address it through an integrated approach to alcohol policy.
Health is high on the European Agenda as noted in President von der Leyen’s State of the Union speech (https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/IP_20_1657), the European Commission’s Work Programme 2021 (https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/ip_20_1940) , the ENVI Report on the EU4Health programme (https://www.europarl.europa.eu/committees/en/product/product-details/20201030CDT04402) and the first meetings of the Special Committee on Beating Cancer (https://www.europarl.europa.eu/committees/en/beca/home/highlights).
Europe Beating Cancer Plan is expected around the 9th December – so now is the time to call for action and ensure prevention and reduction of alcohol related harm is included.
Please disseminate information about the European Awareness Week on Alcohol-Related Harm to all your members, partners and policy and decision makers in your country.
